Church Membership
Joining Great Bridge Baptist Church
At Great Bridge Baptist Church, membership is a vital component of our purpose and mission. Both Jesus and Paul pointed us to embrace healthy church membership for our encouragement, edification, and equipping for ministry. We believe that church membership is the biblical and God-honoring way for us to cultivate a healthy, Christ-centered community.
If you are interested in becoming a member of our local church, we have a helpful, three-step process by which to join GBBC:
-
All prospective members must attend our Discover GBBC class. The curriculum is composed of 4 one-hour classes that cover the basics of the Gospel, our church’s beliefs and practices, and what church membership is all about. We offer this class regularly throughout the year during our Sunday Morning Life Group time (9 – 10 AM). Upon completion, those who attended all classes are able, but not obligated, to sign up for a membership meeting with a pastor, which is the second step of the membership process.
-
The prospective member meets with one of the pastors to provide basic biographical information and recount God’s converting work in his or her life.
Upon meeting the membership requirements established by the church and approval of the pastor, the prospective member would then sign the statement of faith and church covenant, and the application would go to the final step: congregational affirmation.
-
The candidates for membership will be presented to the congregation by a pastor at the end of a regular worship service or during a regular Church Conference Meeting. Upon congregational affirmation, the candidates will be welcomed into membership of Great Bridge Baptist Church. If the candidate has not previously been baptized as a professing believer, they would then be baptized during a Sunday morning worship service.
