When Jesus Moves In (John 1:35-51)

Sermon by Pastor Jesse

When Jesus Moves In

What happens when Jesus steps into your life? What changes?
In this powerful message from Pastor Jesse, we see how Jesus moves in with grace, purpose, and invitation.

From John 1:35-51, Jesus invites His first followers not with pressure but with a simple call: "Come and see."
He doesn't demand they figure everything out. Instead, He invites them into a relationship, changing their lives forever.

1. Jesus Moves Toward Us First

Before we ever pursue Jesus, He is already moving toward us.
John the Baptist points to Jesus, and when the disciples follow, Jesus turns to them and asks:

"What are you looking for?" (John 1:38)

This is how Jesus often starts—by meeting us where we are and inviting us to examine our hearts.

2. Jesus Changes What Defines Us

When Simon meets Jesus, he receives a new name—Peter.

"You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas." (John 1:42)

Jesus doesn’t just tweak our behavior; He redefines us at the core. When Jesus moves in, our identity is no longer based on our past, but on His future for us.

3. Jesus Sees Us Before We See Him

Jesus tells Nathanael:

"Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." (John 1:48)

Even when we’re skeptical or distant, Jesus sees us. He knows our doubts, our questions, and our hearts.

4. When Jesus Moves In… It’s Always for More Than Just Us

Philip couldn't keep his encounter with Jesus to himself—he immediately invites Nathanael. When Jesus moves in, He moves us out—to invite, to tell, to bring others into the story.

  3. What labels or identities might Jesus want to change in your life?

  4. Who can you invite to "come and see" Jesus this week?
